Disparate Thoughts of a Free Woman

A lot of disparate thoughts in this post (hence the blog title - geddit).

1) Britain's Got Talent
2) Summer

Britain's Got Talent

Has it? Having watched the audition stages and the first semi-final I am definately in the Signature Camp. For anyone who has not been watching, they combine Michael Jackson and Bhangra to great effect.

As for the other acts I've seen, this may not come as a surprise to many, but I DESPISE animal acts. Urgh, they tend to not be as talented as human acts, they can walk in and out of legs and jump up and down. Just in case one of the judges is watching - I can do that! It obviously belies training talent by the owner and a dog with aptitude for learning

Anyhoo, on the other hand there was another act, involving a spaceship shaped keyboard that was pretty bad, I admit it. However, the treatment of him by the crowd was HORRIFIC. The crowd were baying for the poor man's blood. Now I would never advocate leading anyone on regarding how much talent they have, as it is bound to set them up for a fall, but they were appalling. How he managed to continue whilst they were stamping up and down repeatedly on his self-esteem is beyond me. It makes me think about the self-esteem problems that are systemic in society - how much does such a public appraisal affect it?

Summer

A quick post about Summer and my plans.

At the moment -

May 31st - June 3rd = Deborah and Katie coming to visit!!!
June 3rd - June 8th = I'm coming home!!
June 9th - June 27th = After School Club work
June 29th - July 26th = Language School Work
Then who knows?
Perhaps a long visit home, some enjoying of the festival and hopefully a visit to London at the start of September before I start back at uni.

Any ideas/plans then contact me!

I am stupid

I'm really upset. My theology exam was terrible. We had to write two essays, so I went through each topic generally and decided to focus on atonement and Scriptural Inerrancy, both of which had come up on every paper for the past three years, and in every resit as well. I spent AGES going through extra study materials and everything. I went into the exam and there was a question on Atonement, but not on Inerrancy. These are actual questions from the past exams:

2005: Assess the concept of biblical inerrancy.
2005 Resit: Critically assess the strengths and weaknesses of the concept of biblical ‘inerrancy’.
2006: Critically assess the strengths and weaknesses of the concept of biblical ‘inerrancy’.
2006 Resit: Critically evaluate Karl Barth’s theology of scripture. (slightly different)
2007: Critically assess the strengths and weaknesses of the concept of Biblical ‘inerrancy’.
2007 Resit: Explain whether the concept of Biblical ‘inerrancy’ is an appropriate response to the questionof what it is that makes the Bible Christian scripture.

Then absolutely NOTHING on Scripture this year. Not a bloomin' thing. What. The. Hell.To make matters worse, five of the seven questions related specifically to the thought of one or more thinkers. We were not warned that this would be the case, either specifically by the lecturer, or through past papers. How on earth are we supposed to formulate a coherent, sufficiently detailed answer on a specific thinker when we were taught in terms of topics. Give me a question on Trinity, fine, give me a question on how far Origen influenced Arian, not fine. Not fine at all. This happened in my exam yesterday too. I just think that I'm going to either fail or get really poor grades, which is like a kick in the stomach given I've been to every lecture this semester, every tutorial (bar one which I missed because I was in hospital), I've done all of the required reading, plus a lot of extra reading too, I spent WEEKS on my essays and then so long revising in depth for these exams and it's all going to go to waste. I think I'm just not clever enough to be at uni, no matter how hard I try I end up with the same marks as those who cruise along doing nothing but the bare minimum, who miss lectures and tutorials to go horseriding and submit essays written at the last minute because they've been on holiday. Why am I so stupid?!
